Can changing a fuel filter cause the fuel pump to break?

I know it sounds stupid to me too, but I heard somewhere that if your fuel filter is changed it can break the pump because the pump is used to working with a clogged fuel filter. Is this true? I just don’t want to be worried that I could be messing up the fuel pump.

No,changing and in line fuel filter will not cause the pump to “break”,
Its designed as a maintenence item that can be changed at certain intervals.
If the fuel pump goes out,it wont be because of changing the filter.

Its the opposite. Not changing your fuel filter will surely destroy your pump. Some brand new cars do not have a serviceable filter but if your does change it.

I have heard that about ****** fluid.. if you run it way too long without changing it, and then change it your ****** goes (true) but never about fuel filters…
Unless some cars have the fuel filter built into the pup - but never heard of that either… specially since most are in tank these days…

Well if you don’t charge the fuel filter and your vehicle requires it yes you can because you will be running your pump dry and will overheat and die. A few years back shell was using an additive that ruined pumps on many Chrysler vehicles the reason was it would dry out the filters and the pumps would run dry overheat and die. Problem has been fixed but that shows that it can happen. The ****** thing someone mentioned that is crap, no matter what as long as you replace the old fluid you will always have a working tranny, even if you only change it once every 300,000 miles would let it go that long but get my point.
